Hey Mom and Dad,
Things are great! We've been out and searching for Israel. Not too much success yet, but we still have lots of hope for the area. One of our investigators came to church yesterday! She's a really nice lady - a former member but because she lived in the hills and could never get to church, she doesn't know a whole lot about Mormons. She got married to a Baptist and the missionaries (being the good ones they were) tried to teach/see her and her husband didn't appreciate it. So, because he was sickly, she had her name removed from the church records. Now that her husband is dead, she's interested in learning more about the church and possibly in being baptized again!
The suit is great! Love it!...but I found the receipt in the pocket.
My back is doing better. Still hurts a bit, but not too bad.
Elder B. lives in Orem, UT (I think?) I would love to see him and Elder P. too when I return. He lives in Tooele.
Yes, I got the messages from Auntie Rockie's family - it was really nice! I haven't got to reply yet. I'm doing that today.
Later, when it gets really cold, you can send me the thermal garments. I hear that this winter is supposed to be worse than the last. But I've also heard that it won't be half as bad, too!
The chunk of coal I sent back was done by Elder B. - he didn't want to pack it so he gave it to me.
No one showed up for any of our Stop Smoking Workshops. So Sad! We just finished the last one on Sat.
I would LOVE some jelly and jam you got from Sister Nelson! I love Plum and raspberry! If you can find some, sometime I would love some strawberry freezer jam!

If dad wants to freeze squirrels and possums for me that he has trapped, as long as I don't have to help skin and stuff - maybe! Heh, no, I didn't skin the squirrels, I could barely watch!
Wow! Six board of review - Three more Eagle Scouts before I get home. Wow!
Yes, Amos 3:7 is a good one. Amos 8:11-13 is good too. Our lesson was on Isaiah 1-6. I love Isaiah! So cool to see things that have been, are being and have yet to be fulfilled!

One Year Mark on 9/16/10
Hey Mom!
Everything's going great! I got Elder B. off to transfers safely and picked up Elder J. We've been catching up on the work that wasn't able to be done last transfer. I've gotten over my sickness, too. But I've been getting pretty constant back pain this past week. If it continues then I'll probly tell Sister T. But I'm doing well!
* Yea, just a cold...but I almost barfed a couple of times. I'm all better!
* Isn't Brother P. retired now? I thought that I remember him saying something to that extent. Great that you found a suit. I found from Sister A. (Relief Society President) my measurments. Sister T.'s response is really exciting! Maybey we'll go next p-day...Sister A. is also looking for me for suits and slacks at goodwills outside of our area. I have a good belt that goes from size 1 to size 46, so I'm ok in that department. I'll be in Charleston this week, so I'll be sure to get the stuff! (I let Billy know he has a suit, shirts and belt on it's way to the mission home for him) He's gone down about 10 inches in his waist!
* Yea, I got the ties...you'll be getting a letter, probly today, about ties. I was kinda hoping it would get there before Sunday, but I guess not. They were very...interesting...but not really mission approved in designs. (Billy sent a photo of his ties in the letter he mentioned - gives an idea of what he likes - he really wants Paisley ties and I found some more on ebay that he'll be getting soon)
* Yes, Elder B. made the squirrel foot keychain that I sent Uncle B. He did it outside on our deck and I didn't chop it off...too squemish. Yea, I've been using the clay Auntie Moo sent like crazy. I love it!!!
* OH, so B. hasn't had the internet for all this time? Hope to hear from him before his mission in Japan is up.
* When does J. turn 19? If it's before Sept. 21, then he'll probably be gone by the time I get home.
* Elder J., my new companion, is from Oklahoma. He's been out 19 months now, so I'm back to being with really old missionaries (lol I say that and I'm 12 months out!) He's a lot like me in a lot of ways. We have similar interests and similar dispositions, so we get along great!
* Say hi to R. for me too!
* Sounds like a lot of fun! Dad's the math person, so he should do good. You should be getting info about my workout in the letter.
* Busy busy! The best book - the B.o.M.!! (Book of Mormon)

Shrinking Elder
Hey Mom!
Thing are going well here in Flatwoods. Transfers this week. Elder B. is going home, his knees are just too bad to allow him to keep going. But he feels like he did all he could despite the pain, and so does Pres. Thornock. I'll be staying here another transfer, making a total of 6 months in Flatwoods!!! My new companion is Elder J. Don't know much about him besides that he's quiet and who he was trained by.
Yea, no mail yesterday! so sad!
Yea, i got auntie moo's package! Awesome, thanks! I will write her today. and no, there wasn't a tape measure in it.
My waist is about a 36-38, and my inseam is the same. (waist before mission was 48") Yea, i got some answers for tailoring...i can't. I need too much off. The most they can take off is 2 sizes, otherwise they have to move the pockets and everything. If you could order new pants for me, that would be great...and i also need new suits...and pretty soon i'll need new shirts...losing weight is expensive!! (I found a great deal through the original place we outfitted Billy - sending him a new suit with 2 pair of slacks, 2 white shirts and a belt for about $250)
Awesome! That's so cool! (Bishop Bruce and wife just returned from taking Cameron to BYU-Provo)
Heh, just a matter of time 'till they have missionaries over there! (Told Billy of a testimony from a recently returned soldier from Iraq who told us that two Iraqi families had left Iraq when the war began - moved to the states - visited by missionaries - joined the church - just moved back to Iraq!)
I missed out. I've been sick since last Thurs., so i wasn't able to go to church. (Billy went a few weeks without YOLI - wonder if his defenses were down!)
Yea, I'll keep looking every once in a while. (cheap suit place to have a mission appropriate suite for sale!)
Yea, forgive and forget is a commandment! If we don't forgive , we can't be forgiven. And if we don't forget, then how much more will our sins be remembered. (Lessons from church I commented on)
Alright! Good to hear! I bet you'll go with her when she goes to the temple! Heh, yea, i get a kick out of them myself! (a recent convert is ready for Temple Prep classes) (I also told Billy of those asking about him and how they get a kick out of hearing of his red neck meals: road kill squirrel, rabbit, snapping turtle)
Could you put some money on my card so that i can send a few packages home ($50)? Too much stuff is piling up. Also, i'm sending my Taska bag home, it's not a very effective bag for a mission...but I'll use it when i get back! It'll be a good college bag.

More Fine Red Neck Dining! Yummy!

Hey Mom!
Everything is going great! Things are still progressing. I'm not sure if I sent you a letter this past week (I sent a bunch), or if I told you that I had another red-neck dinner last week...Snapping Turtle!!! It was a small one, so not much meat, but what I did get to taste was pretty good. If I did send you a letter, there are probably pictures.
Elder B. (Billy's Companion with knee problems) appreciates your prayers.
Heh! That's cool - wow - lots of missions combining/dissolving/splitting. I love the messages you gave from Jason H.'s return from Scotland mission. Elder B. wants to know if Jason has a few extra kilts - he could send him one because he has a Scottish heritage! lol
I missed the lesson on Job this week because we are teaching the youth Sunday School class.
No news yet about tailoring. Our Relief Society President was sick this week. Heh, I'll be on the lookout for the package with the tape measure in it!

Hey, that's funny--I miss everyone, but I only have one year left! So I got to make the best of it!
WOW! Dad will have to exercise more and walk more! (keep up with Billy's weight loss) LOL!
Our Investigators are doing well. We have our Stop Smoking Workshop rescheduled for Wednesday with one of them. We are also holding a mass Stop Smoking Workshop for the next 3 Saturday's.
The turtle...that was fun! We helped a family get ready to move on Friday and Saturday. We are helping another family move into the house that they moved out of.
We have one family that feeds us regularly. They are less active and part member family. But they want us to come over every Sunday and feed us. So that's cool!
(I asked Billy what I could do for him and his reply:) Make everyone not as stubborn as a brick wall! LOL If you could, look for a talk entitled "In the Presence of the Divine" by Joseph F. Smith. That would be great! (already copied and sent it off to Billy today)
Our service includes helping our Branch President dig a ditch so his house doesn't get waterlogged and helping him also mow his in-laws' lawn. He has severe arthritus and his joints are starting to fuse (especially his back).

Need a Tailor!
Hey Mom!
Things were good this week. A little slow because Elder B's knees are giving him grief. But, we do what we can! HE had an appointment today in Charleston, but his insurance didn't give the authorization yet (Tri-care) and his home doctor hadn't sent his x-4ay/MRI's, so we will need to reschedule. Lots of fun! Already a 130 mile day!!
I've received 1 tie, I might have the others sitting at home in the mail.
Yea, there's a place here that sells used suits for $35 and there are a couple that fit...they just aren't the most mission appropriate colors. But I'll keep looking! I was thinking about talking to Sister A. (RS President) about if she would/knew where I could get my clothes tailored. I'll look for a measuring tape or ask around. As far as I can tell, I'm just getting narrower! If I can't get my suits tailored to size, I might have you put some money on my card for me to buy a new one that fits (later).
Wow! Cool that Sister Coppin is the Institute teacher - I guess I can look forward to institute when I get home! (Religion class for college students)

The meeting with Elder Jay E. Jenson was just a devotional for leaders in the mission. Yes, he's the area authority for the NE states and one of the Presidents of the Seventy.
So, Cameron is going to college for awhile before his mission? (He's not 19 yet)
Along with the clay, if you could find some "dentist tools", you know, the picks and scrapey things. They are great for putting details in! (try ebay) (if anyone has some lying around, let me know)
Nothing from James, Ahsha or Johan. I think they are in school, so they are busy and keep forgetting to write. But it's still aggravating...
I'm down to between XL and 1 XL (used to be 3XL)

Wonderful Weekend
Hey Mom!
Things are great! Had a great week! Just finished the second week of our diet. I'm under 250#, and now we're taking a break from it to do a WoW (Word of Wisdom) week. Strictly doing the Do's in it. But I'll tell ya now...I NEED to get my pants tailored!!! To show ya how much I've lost, I need about 5" off my waist!
Zone Conference was great!! President Thornock gave a wonderful thought about the Great Apostasy. We are focusing on finding this next couple of months. We were able to set one of our investigators with a Baptism date!! She's awesome. We lost contact with her for a month or so, but she's been reading consistently from the BoM (Book of Mormon). She's also excited to quit smoking and she wanted to read the WoW from the D+C (Doctrine and Covenants), so we got her a triple combination! She was so excited! She's one of the only people that I've met that wants more than what she has. So cool!!!
* The shoes are great!! I got the Dockers. Really comfortable! Perfect fit! I'll get the Clark's another time.
* That's funny when you told Bridey that I ate a squirrel. Bridey would say that! (I asked Bridey if he would eat a squirrel and he said, NO!)
* WOW!! - You and Scott got to fix dinner for the Stake Presidency, Elder Oaks, Elder Bussey AND the Mission President and his wife!!! So much tasty food!!!! How could Elder Oaks not be impressed!!! LOL
* WOW!! Well, we (Leaders) get to hear from Elder Jay Jenson this Saturday! It's gonna be awesome!
* I remember Jordan but not as much as Nathan and Jacob. (Jordan M. moved back to Lacey to be with his family here)
* ALRIGHT!!! Great to hear that Jacob and Cameron are Elders and will be going on a mission after they are 19!!!
* Yea, so you send me pictures of you and Elder Oaks!! Meanie!! LOL
* I know what i want for Christmas! (I know it's early) A compact quad and some sculpting clay (oil based clay) Probably find it at Micheal's by petsmart) I need something to work on in the apartment every once-in-awhile that's creative.

Squirrely Adventures in WV!
On Saturday, I received a letter in the mail from Billy. He had answered some of my questions about items he needed so I could order them. At the end of his letter, Billy had a P.S. that reads: "We're eating road kill squirrel tonight! (8/2/10) My first! And we found and skinned it!"
If that didn't make my weekend! So, today when Billy read my email, it began like this: "road kill squirrel - What do you mean? I need more information like: IS THAT A JOKE! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!! HOW LONG HAD IT BEEN DEAD-----ARE YOU STILL ALIVE???? WHO'S BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS? WHAt DID IT TASTE LIKE????? YOU HAD BEST ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS RIGHT UP FRONT IF YOU DON'T WANT A CRAZY MAMA COMIN' TO THOSE HOLLERS OF WEST VIRGINNY AND GETTIN' THE HILL OUT OF MY BILLY!!!"
Now onto Billy's email I received today!
Hey Mom,
Things are going well. The work is slow but enjoyable. Elder B. is probably going to have to get a cortisone shot in both knees! He's in a lot of pain right now...(he's been prescribed to take a double dose of aleve every 4-6 hours and a double dose of Tylenol in between when it starts to wear off). Other than that, we are having Zone Conference this week (Friday) and I'm looking forward to it.
* Hehehehehehehe!!! I LOVE it!!!!! Yea, we had squirrel...I meant just what I said - we found a squirrel on the road that a car that had passed us just hit (it was still twitching and warm). So we took it to Brother P. and he showed Elder B. how to skin it. Then we ate it! It was tasty!! A lot sweeter than I thought that it would be, but it was REALLY tough. We also got to eat rabbit as well. That was a cool surprise. You can thank Elder B. for the bright idea. LOL

* I didn't even know that dad was released as the Stake Emergency Prep. Coordinator! But it sounds like fun being the Finance Clerk! For a second, I thought that you said that dad got called as a High Council Rep! LOL That would have been intense!

* Awesome!! I have been thinking about Grandma and why she isn't part of the church lately. I'm glad you're being the member missionary that everyone needs to be! It was a good idea to give grandma the family Book of Mormon as it has lots of tidbits of info from prophets and apostles as well as meanings of words and such. That is just so awesome!!!! I'm confident that Grandma felt the spirit as you and dad bore testimony!
* Yea, Sunday School was cool. And, actually in those chapters we find scripture that we have lost as well!! That is something that I found really cool!!!(lesson out of Chronicles - Josiah the prophet opening the temple and finding lost scriptures).
* NO WAY!!!!! Jason is coming home from Scotland ALREADY!!!???!?!!?! Man I'm OLD! everyone is coming home from their missions. OH, Have you heard anything about Ben Briggs? He hasn't written me or anything.
* I bet the Scout Camp Luau you helped with was tasty! You still haven't sent me recipes!!!

If that didn't make my weekend! So, today when Billy read my email, it began like this: "road kill squirrel - What do you mean? I need more information like: IS THAT A JOKE! WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!!!! HOW LONG HAD IT BEEN DEAD-----ARE YOU STILL ALIVE???? WHO'S BRIGHT IDEA WAS THIS? WHAt DID IT TASTE LIKE????? YOU HAD BEST ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS RIGHT UP FRONT IF YOU DON'T WANT A CRAZY MAMA COMIN' TO THOSE HOLLERS OF WEST VIRGINNY AND GETTIN' THE HILL OUT OF MY BILLY!!!"
Now onto Billy's email I received today!
Hey Mom,
Things are going well. The work is slow but enjoyable. Elder B. is probably going to have to get a cortisone shot in both knees! He's in a lot of pain right now...(he's been prescribed to take a double dose of aleve every 4-6 hours and a double dose of Tylenol in between when it starts to wear off). Other than that, we are having Zone Conference this week (Friday) and I'm looking forward to it.
* Hehehehehehehe!!! I LOVE it!!!!! Yea, we had squirrel...I meant just what I said - we found a squirrel on the road that a car that had passed us just hit (it was still twitching and warm). So we took it to Brother P. and he showed Elder B. how to skin it. Then we ate it! It was tasty!! A lot sweeter than I thought that it would be, but it was REALLY tough. We also got to eat rabbit as well. That was a cool surprise. You can thank Elder B. for the bright idea. LOL
